Free Labour - will work for food!

So we start a blog and then disappear off the face of the planet!! Blame SKY and their inability to sort out both my telephone and the broadband.... its still not sorted but i've managed to get some pics on here.

Rant over. Its been a big few weeks in the Weston household. We've benefited massively from free labour from Nat, Alex and Rak. All were brilliant. we've ripped out the delightful wardrobes and fireplace in our bedroom and stripped the walls and got rid of the carpet. Elsewhere we ripped the carpets out of the hall, off the stairs and the landing. Alex and Rak then stripped the lovely woodchip off in double quick fashion. we also removed approximately 1 mile of telephone cable from the hall!! it was everywhere. I took a day off work and ripped out the shower fromt he dining room.. sad to see it go... not at all, especially when i got soaked because the cowboy that fitted it had attached it to the mains cold supply..

The space formally taken in our dining room by the shower....

The fruit of our labours

The bathroom is nearly done, so i hope to put some pics up next week.... SKY dependent...

Waiting for the man

Apologies we've not put anything on here for a while, we've not got a decent internet connection until Sky get their arse in gear and come and install it. This makes uploading pictures a little tricky.

We had the rock and roll weekend to end all weekends. Saturday, we stripped the wallpaper in the bedroom. I'm afraid the wallpaper was cramping my style on that one!!! And then we spent Sunday looking at showerheads for the umpteenth time to decided if that one that's the same as all the others is the one we want... and yes it was.

The bathroom and the important part of that is the bath, goes in next week.

Hopefully the Sky man will get his act together soon and we can show you what we've done.....

Well, we're in!

Just a quick post to say we're now safely installed in the house and slowly getting rid of boxes. We're both absolutely exhausted (two hour journeys to Horsham in the snow don't help) but loving our new surroundings. Definitely has that 'camping' feel, not quite knowing where anything is or where to put anything, and the current challenge is attempting to get rid of the 'old lady' smell in the carpet. So far it's been treated with Neutradol and Oust! The carpet won't be a long-term fixture but I'd like to be able to walk into the house without heaving in the meantime.

To add to the big week we also had our 20 week scan today - all looks fine, so fingers crossed the second half of the pregnancy will continue as smoothly as the first. Baby was a bit shy about showing his/her face and definitely endorsed ours (Nick's) decision not to know the gender by keeping his/her legs firmly crossed throughout the whole thing. Thanks to everyone who's dropped us congratulations messages on Facebook - really appreciated.

First proper job will be the bathroom (approximately the size of a doll's shoebox) so photos and design plans coming up in the next few days. Also, as soon as we're probably hooked up to broadband I'll upload the photos I took on moving day - the 'befores'!

Take care,

Lily x

The Ballad of the Banister.

According to my mother in law (who is a very wise woman), in the 50's there was a chap on TV who encouraged people to modernise their victorian houses. You know the sort of thing, chipboard paneling on the doors, and boxing in those lovely spindle banisters. Ever since she saw this house my wife has been desperate to find out if the spindles were still there.....

The previous owners had lived here for over 40 years, unfortunately due to illness it had become too much.

Now we've have the keys here are a few pics of what it looked like today.

The worlds smallest bathroom - we have to fit a bath in there!!

Our ultra modern kitchen!

They had a fondness for net curtains, this is the dining room....

....complete with disabled shower.

The lounge

And finally the master bedroom

The House

Ok, so here we are, Nick and Lily Weston. We Live in hove and yesterday (8th January 2010) we picked up the keys to our first house. We've been married for nearly 18 months and with a baby on the way decided that our two bed flat was too small.

Having looked around we decided that we'd like something of a project, (in addition to the baby) to get our teeth into. eventually we found, negotiated and bought a 3 bed terrace not too far from our current place in Hove. And my god does it need work!

This is going to take us a while to do, but what we do hope is that we can restore the original Victorian charm with a modern tasteful feel. Stick with us, hints tips and info on what you've done or seen are very welcome and we'll share with you what we are trying to create.
